Great question! I did a major project back in 2004. Complete engine, trans and rear end rebuild. I had the front end out and took the cotters out of the perches. My intent was to clean and paint everything. I took the nuts off and replaced after painting. Unfortunately I did not tighten enough and put new cotters back in. Eventually the car began to wander. It took me a number of years and replacing everything imaginable to finally solve the problem. I was frustrated and thought what the hell. Took the cotters out and using a socket and breaker bar cinched the nuts REAL tight. New cotters and the problem was gone.
