Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Well it's a good weekend as I found a 1946 side load trans in our area that should work well for a gear set in my 32 B trans case project. Pictures when I get it on site, I will post a lot of pictures for those like me that are just getting started in this Model A/B game and may find them helpful on future projects. For those who have done this a 100 times bare with us

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
My 32B trans case that I am installing 1946 gears in has no clutch shaft grease fitting setup in the case. Should I drill & tape the case and install fittings or is there a better way?

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Jerry, Chuck and Dave are the principals. Dave is pictured plumbing the carbs. The seat was trial fitted Tuesday. old28, I asked about engine internals and got, "shush, it's a secret". More to come. Russ

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
WHAT MODELASTEVE SAID
I spent about 15 years running front motor V8 dune buggies at Pismo Beach and we spent a lot cash at the local car wash on Grand Ave soaping and cleaning the ride after a 3 day weekend. Would not have traded it for anything. Looking forward to getting some Salt & Sand on a racer again. |

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
California Travieso, I agree with modelAsteve. old28, here's a photo of our banger buggy "FRANTIC FOUR". We'd just drive through the Pismo Creek on our way home for a wash. Enjoyed it for 4 years and then went V8. Never made it up Devil's Slide with the banger. Made it up once with the V8 in the winter after a good rain. Keepin' the faith. Russ

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Russ and the other guys,
Thanks for the responses. I understand how you feel about the TROG and I respected your right to enjoy your vehicles, it's just that washing my car is not one of my favorite chores. I'm working on a 30 roadster that needs to be restored. Once I get it running, it would be fun to run it at Pismo before I get it painted. Maybe next year. David Serrano |

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Calif Trav --- Dave, Washing the ride down after a long weekend ain't the most fun, but it has to be done. That's what Pismo is about. Good luck with your build, maybe 2017 will be your year to join the fun.
Russ --- I only made it up the slide two times with my front motor SBC. That's a dune face that can make you wish for more power & better paddles. |

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Well got into pulling all the parts from a 1946 side load trans that will go into my 32B trans case with a 39 shift tower I rebuilt. lots of stuff to clean, bearings to replace. Only problem was the clutch/fork pin. Ground top off and still not able to punch out. Drilled it out and will run a little bigger pin when it goes back together.
I purchased Van Pelts Trans Book and covered it front to back a few times. The information went a long ways towards making the job a little easyer. This is my first gear change/trans modification. One piece I need, the 46 clutch inspection cover is to small for my 32B case. 46 trans has a 3" x 3" hole & 3.75" center to center screw holes. The 32B case has 3.5" x 3.5" hole & 4.75 center to center screw holes. Anyone out there have one I can buy? PM me please. I know this is old stuff to most of you guys but others like myself that are new to this A/B game may see something that will help on their project. |

Re: TROG Build On Left Coast
Thanks for the pictures and write-up on the TROG type build you are doing. I will probably try to build one myself. Just to be sure if I am following your logic, etc: The reason (benefit) for wanting the 32 transmission case versus a Model A transmission is better performance and still being "traditional" with the 32 tranny case and later gears? You Have to use Model B parts to bolt up the 32 Transmission to the Model A block? You will be still able to use the Model A oil pan? Am I understanding this right?
