39 PU trans behind 8BA Flathead
I have a 39 truck trans (i was told by the seller that it was because of it has yoke for connecting to driveshaft). It appears to be in excellent condition. How do I get it mated to 8BA block?

Use either a '49-'50 stamped steel Mercury, or '48-'52 cast iron truck "1/2" bell housing/flywheel cover, along with the correct (similar) starter plates. |

What do you have for a bell housing? Should bolt on. Check to see what you have for a transmission. VanPelts site explains the transmissions well. Everyone has a 39 transmission, expecially when they are being sold.

33,
Hold on brother...it sounds to me like you have an open drive trans. The open drive trans is fine but only if you have no torque tube to contend with. SOME truck tansmissions are 4 speed be real sure that yours is not one. Like Neal says all floor shift Ford trans are '39's if the buyer has not been around the block. Post a photo it will help ! If the transmission has a "yoke", it sounds like it is a '42 and later pickup for an open drive line application. A '39 trans will have a shaft with 6 splines to accept the common '28 to '48 closed driveline u-joint. Any of the '32-'48 car and commercial trans will bolt to an 8BA bellhousing.

Ford1933, If you use the 49-50 Merc bell housing, make sure you have the matching 49-50 Merc starter plate. If the transmission is a truck 4 speed, I would pass.
