Default ‘40 Ford Flywheel

Hello Everybody,
Well, the clutch went out on my ‘40 Deluxe Coupe. Got the transmission out and have removed the pressure plate and the 9” clutch. Flywheel is in rough shape with 1 of the 6 bolts broken off. Still need to remove the oil pan to get the flywheel off, but I’ve been searching a bit for a replacements. The clutch and pressure plate are readily available and I’m planning on ordering them from Fort Wayne Clutch. The flywheel is another story.

I’m wanting to keep my car stock, so I prefer a replacement flywheel that is original. I posted a Thread in the Wanted of Ford Barn, but I also wanted to post something here. Anyone have a flywheel for sale? Or advice for a replacement, if an original is not available?

Thanks.
Borron

yeah... I've got one. Probably not going to ship. They gotta be common, like dime-a-dozen. Wherever you are, should be able to find one.

Why not just take the flywheel to the machine shop and have it rebuilt? They can remove the broken bolt, resurface it and put a new ring-gear on it if needed. There really isn't much that can go wrong with a flywheel that can't be easily fixed. Also, bring them the new clutch plate and have them balance the flywheel and clutch together as an assembly.

Hi Bored&Stroked,
Taking it to a machine shop is an option, although the face of it is pretty scarred. If I can't locate one in good condition, I'll go this route. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Rockfla,
Righto! Although it's actually about 3 hours from my house, but who's counting when there's a good flywheel at the end of the road!

Bowen5573, You may already know this but when parts came along the assembly line that had minor imperfections, they were sent to the "parts" department as the workers had no time to mess with it. I had 2 sets of NOS fenders for my 40s, and 3 of them needed minor tweaks, one of them had been stamped twice in the punching station for the mounting bolts to the cowl and running boards. So, inspect any NOS part you may get in the future carefully. I was able to use all 4 fenders but 3 were not just bolt ons.

Found . Pm sent . I agree having yours refreshed . By the time you factor in fuel ,time and the part its a little easier to keep your assembly together . But mine is out seeing daylight again .
