Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
Next week I'll be starting another batch of Chevy to 8BA distributors. This
will likely be the last batch due to price hikes at NAPA and aluminum stock. If I were to build another batch after these the price with the vacuum can would go from $325 to $337....w/o the can from $297 to $309. These are great ignitions but I think I'm bumping against the price ceiling. Charlie ny |

Re: Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
I talked to Skip a few weeks ago and he was commenting on the price increase in bearings. I checked Rock Auto for rear wheel bearings for a 49 for someone and they're $80 when I paid $30 5 years ago.
If you're worried about the investment not selling then take deposits and when you have enough to make it worth doing a batch then go for it. Nothing for our cars is getting cheaper, especially oil and gas.

Re: Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
Unfortunately everything is going up. A Chevy conversion distributor is the best thing I ever did for the 8ba in my '39 p/u (along with the carb you rebuilt for me). That said, quality costs money. If you build it they will come from my point of view and JMO.

Re: Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
Greetings And Salutations,
I'm new to this. Just bought my 52 last Aug. Lots of problems and lots good things. The engine runs smooth, though rich. Totally stock except for a 6V alternator and a tiny air filter. What benefit does a chevy conversion bring? How is it different from the stock Ford dist? I just discovered today that my gas tank plug is leaking. But it looks bigger than just a plug. Any way, the car is solid, but not a beauty queen, so I am not adverse to add more to the engine to make it more reliable. JP Lutz |

Re: Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
Charlie: I'm facing the same problem with my T5 kit and 409 pump kit. They both use aluminum. I have increased the price of the pump kit in line with the increase in making my parts and will have to increase the T5 kit shortly. I like you feel I'm reaching a price ceiling. I'm faced with the Chinese reproductions sold by another company and can't compete. I do think your customers will stand a 10-20.00 price increase for a quality product like you produce.

First thing I'd do is ditch the tiny air cleaner for a stock or larger one. The small ones look cool but restrict the air flow to the carb IMO.

Re: Chevy to 8BA distributor conversions
All I can say is if I wanted one of either of these products/services I would gladly pony up knowing I'd get top quality and I'd be supporting an American earning an honest living. I get very disappointed with the quality and durability of many offshore items offered online. Often times it's better to pay once rather than twice after the first one fails.

jp,
If your motor is stock there is no reason to move away from the stock Ford Load a Matic distributor. Charlie ny |
