Default 1936 Cabriolet Top and or Rear Glass

Finally geting to the top on my 36 Cabriolet.
Does anyone know of a shop that still makes the Convertible top. I also need the rear glass. I am told the glass is thicker than conventional auto glass.
Anyone have any knowledge about the glass or top?

Actually the rear glass could be the same thickness (.25") as side window glass or thinner (.162"). Here are two drawings showing both thicknesses.

According to what is written in the 35/36 restoration guide, the rear window
glass on open 35/36 vehicles would have originally been 1/8" thick glass.
You need to find a glass shop that can have a piece of 1/8" glass cut to fit
your frame or try calling Sanders Glass in Van Couver, Washington in order
to purchase the size you need. They can be reached by searching on line and
the option will be there to submit a pattern for them to cut a piece or you can
buy one that is already cut according to what they have for the correct size
needed for your frame. Ford originally used the 1/8" thickness to help control
the amount of weight pulling on the top material.

I would also be interested in knowing of a company reproducting the convertible tops.I read on this forum that the company that supplied LeBaron Bonney with their open car rear window frames is no longer producing them.
Another void in the hobby to be filled.

Lawson,
I was looking for the drawing for the frame, not the glass. If I can get the drawing I can reproduce a frame or at least verify an original if I run across one. 👍

Wayne, There were 2 styles of rear window frames for 36 cabriolets...stamped steel and cast aluminum. Sent me your email address and I will send you drawings.

Aro2000 makes them. www.aro2000.com, or Bill Hirsch sells the material if you can find a local shop to make one.

My buddy in Australia has made them in stainless inner and outer. Only one size at the moment, but he could do other sizes if he got enough orders( not sure how many he would need to make it cost effective)
I have bought one off him for my 35 convertible sedan. I’ll let you know tonight the dimensions and post a photo. He sends it with Perspex cut to size. But an easy one to get made in glass if you prefer.

ARO2000.com list a number of '36 Ford body styles that they have convertible tops for. You might want to give them a call. I got a Haartz Cloth canvas top from them for my '39 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible Club Coupe. It is not exact as OEM but it is the closest, I could find.

Here’s the frame my buddy is making here in Australia. They suit Aussie dimensions 35/36.
25”x5”.

I am installing a top for a customer's 1936 Club Cabriolet that I purchased from Cartouche, which is now a part of Mac's Auto, which is part of Eckler's. It is my understanding that Mac's ended up with what used to be Lebaron Bonney/Cartouche, at least as it relates to early Ford V8 interiors and soft goods.
