Brake light switch
Hi from Japan
Im getting my 30 coupe ready for registration and need to replace the brake light switch. Is there a reputable supplier as I prefer OEM if possible. Thanks Pete

Re: Brake light switch
There seems to be two switches available. A cheapo one that runs $10-$15. and a high quality one like this that runs $50-$60.
https://www.brattons.com/BEST-QUALIT...uctinfo/19411/ I looked at both and was going to buy the high quality switch, but refurbed my original instead. |

Re: Brake light switch
The originals are best and can be redone.
The cheap chinezium ones are junk. The expensive repro's are good, but, seem to be out of stock at some vendors. |

Re: Brake light switch
Look for the switch with brass bushings around the shaft

Re: Brake light switch
It's so easy to add brass bushings to the existing inexpensive 30-31 switches, and in doing so, you'll save yourself $45.00. All that's needed is a small piece of K&S 3/16" (.187") brass tubing.

Re: Brake light switch
I disagree. If you have ever seen an original, or the ones made by A&L and sold by some of our vendors, the brass bushing is a machined part that fits into the case halves, not a piece of tubing.

Re: Brake light switch
Thanks for the link, got it in a notification email from administration. Looks good, problem is that for some unbeknownst reason I can't sign in to that forum and get the pictures. Methinks I can figure it out from the explanation.

Re: Brake light switch
Yeah, I probably should make one into a PDF file so it can be downloaded or published. I would have posted it here as well, but there isn't any sub-forums to post it in on this site.

Re: Brake light switch
The good quality switch was made by A&L Parts. They have relocated and I don't know what their status is now. Maybe someone can comment about them. I have to mention that Al Lepore was a great friend of mine and made many contributions to the hobby. I have one of his reproduction 1932 horns on my 1932 Coupe and I run my fingers over the bell of that horn and think of him often. Ed

Re: Brake light switch
A&L now only sells to the vendors - no more direct to the public sales. They still make excellent products. The vendors sell the switch make by A&L
