Re: '36 eng. idetification.
Interesting. My '36 had an unmarked LB in it. The trans/chassis numbers (which still match) show an August 1935 build date. However this engine looks to be someone's (Ford?) overhaul, since it is sleeved to standard bore and has a .020 undersize crank.
Of course this means it is uncertain whether it's the original engine. I've been able to trace the history to 1971, but not to the original owner. Doesn't seem to be much interest in anyone buying these engines. I've had this one for sale for some time with no takers.

Re: '36 eng. idetification.
Im fairly new to these old cars with a great interest in all old things Ford. For reasons I can't explain for sure I've a great interest in this style engine.
I'm no expert but have learned a lot, mostly on here the Barn and reading everything I can get my hands on to read. From what I've read/found the LB went into production in Oct.1935. I've spoke with people that have 1936 cars and said they've found babbit engines in cars that serial into Oct. '36 and some folks that say they have an LB in Feb.of 36. It's tough to know for sure what's went on with our cars since '35 or '36. It's fun trying to figure it out tho. |
