28 29 5 window body
Is a 1928 and 1929 five window coupe body the same? If not, how can I spot the differences? Thanks.

Re: 28 29 5 window body
The differences between 28 and 29 cars is subtle. 28's have items different than 29's like fluted headlight lenses, body mounted taillights, powerhouse generators, red steering wheels, different radiator shells, fan shrouds along with other minor differences. From a distance they look virtually the same. Some early 29's had many of the 28 features as a carryover until the earlier stock of parts was used up.

Re: 28 29 5 window body
I meant is there any difference in the bare metal body between 28 and 29?

Re: 28 29 5 window body
If there are any differences they would most likely be in the very early 28s as there are differences in the hood and fenders but I haven't heard of anything other than rivets, wipers and cosmetic areas being different.

Re: 28 29 5 window body
Thanks for the reply, I have a 29 with a poor repaint from the 50's-60's . It shows some evidence of original paint that was not used in 29. I thought it may be a 28 body transplant. The paint is a tan or beige, much lighter than rose beige.

Re: 28 29 5 window body
Then there is the Ebrake hole in the lower left cowl section that is not in the 1929 body; then there is the cowl section where the two vertical strips of hood anti-squeak material is attached left and right...early 28's have the rivets going inside of the cowl section where the later models have the rivets going into the engine compartment section; there are differences, I think, where the windlace attaches to the cowl/front window section...

Re: 28 29 5 window body
There are actually a lot of differences between early 28 Standard Coupe bodies and 29 Coupe bodies (not talking about Special Coupes.) There are differences in the subframe, the rear wheel wells, the doors, and all of the floor pans.

Re: 28 29 5 window body
Here are a couple of pictures of the difference in 1928 and 1929 Coupe/Tudor doors. The difference is in the tops of the doors and the cap that attaches with the three small screws above the window glass. The green door below is a '29 and the rusty one and the brown painted doors are 28's. The '29 cap will fit over the side edges of the door hopefully preventing water to seep down the window channel.

Thanks for all the information. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated. I have yet to find a date on the firewall.
