Default scroll handle (30/31) shaft length question/clarification

I am in the process of sourcing a set (or 3/4) of outside scroll handles (ss-clad) for an early '31 standard fordor. I've found a couple that are the quality I'm after, but the shafts are too short (from the retainer score marks to the end). What came off the car (and I'm fairly sure at least one was original) had lengths of ~2 3/4" from the notches to the end. The stainless-clad originals that I am locating are ~1 1/2" between those two points. On my doors (inserting from the exterior) in is 2 1/2" before the shaft first makes contact with the door socket mechanism. I don't see anywhere where these are two different 30/31 shaft lengths, but maybe I am not looking in the right place(?).
I feel like I'm either missing something, asking the wrong question. Help(?)

You might have already explored this but Bratton's scroll door handles, listed for 30-31 Fordoors and Cabriolets state that the shaft is extra long to fit early V8 cars and must be cut to fit the A's. They don't state the actual length but you could check with them

The rumble seat handle for the Cabriolet has a short shaft.

For what it's worth, the mechanisms are twist-type. I realize that's likely irrelevant to the question, but more info can't hurt.

Shaft length can be added if you like the handle.

the early 31 straight window 4 door wood body cars used a long shaft outside handle without any groove. the later SW cars used the shorter shaft. the right front door locking handle had the groove in the shaft. so it could not be removed without being unlocked.

Just the clue I was looking for jw hash (thanks John). While on the subject, was the separate driver-side lock (pictured) an aftermarket addition?
