Default Rear Spring Reverse Eye?

I see and hear all the time about "reversing the eye of the spring? Now, I know what it means, and I know what it looks like. What I don't know is can I do this myself (with Mapp gas that's all I have)? I always thought that would ruin the temper. Yes? No?

I don't do that on rear springs, it makes it very difficult to reinstall. I recommend removing leaves to lower the rear of the car. Keep the top leaf in place because it is contoured to fit into the crossmember. Remove every-other leaf. I removed 3 on my tudor, and like the way it sits.

You can buy a reverse eye spring ---- ~$250 or so. If you want one, buy one ---- lots easier than making one.

Or you can install it very simply with some square tubing.

As far a $250, well I have had a reverse eye spring on back order for 2 months and have been given no indication as to when to expect it. But then there's the $250 + shipping + tax here in WA, it adds up in a hurry. Mostly it's the back order thing that has me considering any options I might have.

Take the main leaf and set on a concrete floor. Take a piece of chalk and trace the curvature on the floor. Now, by whatever means work, recurve that leaf until it matches the curvature but with the eyes on the other side. You don't want to use heat doing this. If you have a spring shop in your neck of the woods, they should be able to do this for you.

I would strongly oppose it . There’s really no good reason. A lot harder to use a spring spreader properly ( I saw the clamp idea) . If you want to build a street rod so it. But for a Stock rear and axle I don’t see the point or logic.
And no, you can’t use a map gas torch to do it.
