tire balancing 1940 coupe
I want to balance 650X16 Diamond Back Auburn Deluxe Radials that have the bias ply look on stock 1940 Ford rims .
What methods have you used or would suggest? Thank Tom. |

I did mine on a bubble balancer I got off of Amazon, my son mailed me a box of assorted clip on weights he had.

High speed balance done at your local tire shop. Should fit their machine with no problem. Also allows checking of rim run out.

Bubble or spin or on the car balancer all work great if done properly. Only thing I can add would be to "static" balance it, so all the weights are of the inside of the wheel.

Beads. I used counteract . they work great and you wont have a weight fly off damaging your vehicle.

I would suggest running them and see if you have an imbalance in any of the tires. You will be surprised at how many tires really don't need any balancing if you have a good rim. I know I was surprised to learn that after spending a life time of balancing tires.

Re: tire balancing 1940 coupe
I have had a set of radials on 37 wide five rims that didn't need balancing. When the tires aged out the next set of radials didn't need balancing either. I discovered this by accident since the tire shops couldn't balance the wheels with the big open center, and I didn't know of a local place to balance on the car.

Re: tire balancing 1940 coupe
I,like 38 coupe have wide 5s on a '37 fordor humpback with modern radials that i didnt have balanced run down the road sooo much better than the 9 yr old non radial bias plys. and they are tubeless. granted the orig wheels were in very good cond. the '37 was owned by a well to do old gent since 1956 and i think the car has allways been garaged and kept in order. Tom.
