Help Identify Marks on Engine
I recently purchased a 1928 Coupe. I pulled the engine to clean and repaint and mostly to remove the awful hospital green paint color that was on the engine block and everything else that got over sprayed with a rattle can in the process. In doing so I have spotted markings on the engine that I would like to possibly identify. I've attached some pictures to help.
First of all I think the engine has been rebuilt and re-stamped because the serial number on the block does not conform to Model A standards (No Stars and different font). Also have not found stamping on frame to see if there is a match. There are 4 marks in question: 1) Below the valve chamber - Looks like a riveted tag that says "L-306" 2) In front of the valve chamber by the side timing cover - Stamped "0" with a diamond shape below 3) Above the valve chamber at the front manifold stud - Stamped "52" 4) Above the last rear Exhaust port - Stamped "6-7" I'm also finding other questionable things like, the frame has a steering column sector shaft hole and mounting holes on both frame rails as if this frame could have been either LH or RH driver. The holes on the RH frame rail look very clean as if they were factory and not modified by someone else. Did Ford ever build frames like this? FYI it is currently a LH driver car. I may have bought a Frankenstein! -------------------- Rick |

Re: Help Identify Marks on Engine
Diamond block. A ford replacement motor. These were available thru ford dealers. Also sold as motors for other applications up thru the start of the war years.
An excellent motor. |

Re: Help Identify Marks on Engine
28 and 29 frames were factory drilled to be RHD or LHD .30 and 31 frames were drilled one side only LHD or RHD .. There was however some overlap I have a very early 30 frame drilled both sides and has the old style emergency brake shaft .
