Cool Is this rumour correct?

I've heard a rumour that MARC and MAFCA have started to see a large increase in members not renewing compared to this time in 2019...true?

Maybe Corona will lead to a merger?

Possibly it’s time the two clubs amalgamated into one club serving the same audience for the same purpose. The old adage that we have Coke and Pepsi is no longer relevant. We had Chevrolet and Pontiac. Pontiac is no more and we get along quite fine without it. Ford and Mercury travelled the same route and Mercury is no more. Most of us only have so much hobby money and it’s time we decided which club serves our needs better. This is a different world we live in and time we changed with the times.

I renewed both of mine. I also belong to AACA as well as their local affiliate. Starts to add up and with the ever increasing prices just don’t know how long I can hang on to everything. As far as MARC & MAFCA, I belong mainly for the magazines since their presence & activities in Alaska is non existent.

I just got my March/April Model A News, and there is nothing in it. Can't blame this on the virus, but it is pretty bad. Too bad.

I wouldn't have a problem with both combining if we got a magazine every month!

Wow! I just looked at my March/April issue and let's see there was a trouble shooting tech article, Saving a side bowl carburetor, Fitting the rear quarter panels, Great Fashion article on leather Purses (6 pages), Nice article on the MAFFI museum (eight pages) showing all the NOS parts, the annual listing of all the MARC clubs.....I appreciate the work that goes into putting this magazine together. I put our club newsletter together and at times it's a thankless job. Just my thoughts

I had a letter from MAFCA last week wanting me to re-join (I no longer have the A). Said membership was down by 2200. That's a lot.

I totally agree and that is but one of the reasons Membership has dwindled. Very little value for what you pay!

As some of you may know, FAST has suspended publication and will support activities promoted by individuals and clubs. $50 here and $50 there adds up. The lack of younger members and older members passing on or losing interest is the death knell of any organization.

To be an officer in our club you have to belong to both National Clubs. If I was not an officer I am sure I would drop MAFCA.

One of the benefits that people often overlook is the National Clubs provide liability insurance to the local clubs for club events.

From what I hear MARC is doing just fine with membership.

However, all clubs are going to have to figure out how to compete with Facebook...

I use to belong to all three . The magazines was all that I really cared about . I liked the FAST magazine best of all . It just got TOO expensive for what good that I actually got from any of them . I always preferred two clubs than combining the two national clubs , MAFCA and Marc . In other words I prefer getting two magazines than one . As for membership loss , I feel that the clubs would benefit more from charging less for the mags and membership . If the cost was less , the clubs would benefit with more members . Also for the price we should at least get a copy each month . The cost of membership is just more than it is worth to me .

$50.00...Just skip a meal or two out and you have saved enough or nearly enough for a years membership.

Also reading the magazine isn't nearly as fattening...

It would be nice but the cost of printing and mailing a very nice magazine is pretty
expensive. Look at the magazines for sale at the stores and see how many are priced less than 5 or 6 dollars. I have been a member of both clubs as well as MAFFI, AACA, MCA, and SAAC for several years and I consider the publications well worth the cost of membership. MAFFI only has a newsletter but I am helping support the Model A Museum. JMHO

Personally I think the cost is reasonable. Membership dues has to help pay for the overhead - lawyers, insurance, supplies, paid staff, etc., etc. I consider it money well spent to support their efforts to keep the hobby going.

May not be for everyone but I would be ok with just a online magazine.
I only belong to the MAFCA and prefer reading the online version of the restorer.
That should reduce cost enough to lower membership fees.

But it is so hard to carry my computer to the bathroom with me. Paper copy just stays in "the reading room".

I too would be happy with just an on-line [I]Restorer[I]. I have stacks of printed issues that I never go back and re-read. I dropped MARC years ago because I preferred MAFCA's Restorer.

I joined Marc and Mafca a couple years ago, went to a marc national if you are all about judging and seminars then marc is great mafca paralells marc in many ways except they do the same in a national convention but also hold a driving tour every couple of years. Marc seems to do a geat many tours in the northeast and most are too far away for me. I dropped Marc as it just does not interest me. Mafca i am still thinking about.
