Oil filter installation in ‘38 V8-60

Hi all, I’m looking to install an oil filter setup into my ‘52 MGTD running a 1938 V8-60 that has some 50’s period speed equipment (Offy heads, lumpy cam, dual Stromberg 81’s). Anyone familiar with this engine? Thank You! Scott

Although there is "speed equipment" available, seriously doubt there was ever any "oil filter setup's" made for this engine unless it was something custom made.
The 1950's Vedette/Simca version of the V8 60 did have oil filters.

look for a bypass filter, there was a ford accessory filter, not common now, it was a bypass filter, ---given your modifications look at AMS oil website,tey have a bypass filter system would take a little oil from the port on the back of the intake, originally there would have been a hollow bolt for return, don't remember where it went, on the 85 sometimes a fuel pump bolt, or timing cover----all you have to do is get it to drain back into the engine

Yes, indeed you could probably 'T' into the oil pressure port to feed a standard Ford bypass filter that would have to be located in a suitable spot.
The return line located either to the oil pan/hollow bolt etc.

Might consider a Beehive filter remotely mounted, like the firewall.

Tapping off the oil pressure feed will only filter 30% of the oil if your lucky.
Remember a oil pump on a 60 is UP FRONT driven by the crank. So the oil has to travel through the whole motor to get to oil pressure feed in the back.
Best way to do it would be to tap right into the pump like a Barker Dry Sump Pump.
Bulkheads in the side of the pan for lines.
Not much room to send the oil BACK into the top of the pump though.
Where would you put the return/feed line???

Would be interesting to get an actual flow volume from that port.
I have done a flow volume test on an 8BA and found that at idle, 5 Qt's of oil flows every ±11 minutes thru the bypass filter.

A bypass filter like we're talking about doesn't care a whit where the oil comes from. No need to complicate the installation by accessing the pump itself. The oil pressure tap will serve just fine, and the filtered oil goes back to the oil pan, not the pump. As someone else said, 5 qts of oil is filtered every 11 minutes. You can't do better than that with a full flow filter.*

*A misconception about full flow filters is that they filter all the oil. That just doesn't happen, as the high volume going through a full flow will have its internal pressure release intermittently open to prevent bursting the filter media. The return line will then have a mix of filtered and unfiltered oil.

The 50's Simca/Vedette V8 60 that comes with a bypass filter does appear to take the feed to the filter from an oil gallery above the rear cam bearing and return the oil directly into the valve chamber.
