Try using the search feature with V860 (note, no spaces, no quote marks).

There's remarkably little info out there on 60's - apparently Ford didn't even publish a shop manual.

Gears, bellhousings and all are different for 60's and 85's and won't hook up. You'll need all 60 running gear. The little engine was relatively weak so needed stump puller gears to get down the road.

They sure are cute, though. Just sold mine.

I have a book that I got quite a few yr's ago. I cain't remember where I got it. On the front cover is a pic od a 60hp with heads and dual carbs, The Tital is ( THE-V8-60 ) by RICHARD WILLIAM it tell every thing want to know about the 60hp engine. 275 pages, there's nothing to tell me where to call or anything where to order this book but it's a beauty, about souping them for Midgets, boats, motorcycles, ect. I don't know if you can google this or not. Walt

Unfortunately, Richard Willim has passed away and his website appears to be down. I bought my copy of his book several years ago on his website. His book was carried by MAC's but they have it marked unavailable now on their website calalog. You may be able to find a copy through Amazon.com or possibly on eBay.

I also have a '38 standard coupe with a V8-60.
Never had it going and probably never will.
Radiator and gearbox are different as well.
You may be better off to put in a 85HP ( or 95HP ) engine and box etc and enjoy the extra power IMHO.
Parts are a lot easier to come by as well.
Leave the little motor in the shed to look at.

JM 35 -

What a shame to read about Richard, not only was he a super nice guy but what a wealth of knowledge he was. I first met him when he got a truck load of 60 stuff from me, he gave me a copy of his book and signed it. After that I spoke with him numerous times and stopped by his place, the 60 he was doing at the time was going to be all of 140hp he said. A few weeks ago I finished a refresh on a 60 and was going to call him for a dipstick tube. There's no doubt in my mind he was the king of the V8 60's. RIP Richard Willim

By the way the book is bound, I think with the appropriate permissions and gratuities sent, it would be easy to make quality copies for those seeking the info.

Just remembered that the EFV-8C/A's '37 Ford Book has a section on the 60hp engine. Not sure but the '38-'39 & '40 Books may also have something on the 60hp engine.

I would NOT suggest making photo copies of my Dad's book unless you'd like to deal with a COPYWRITE infingement.

New Copies of the book will be available soon. I have all the legal BS finished and have an appointment with the printer next week to finalize the details.
The hold up was looking HIGH and LOW for Dad's digital copy of the book.
Could not find it and his personal computer would NOT come back to life.
I was about to give upo my personal copy to bescanned when a very nice guy out west conntacted me about the book. He sent me HIS copy of the book to use for scanning so my can stay intact.
As soon as I have the books in my truck i will post a link to purchase all over the place.
Will be the same price dad sold them for, $50.00 shipped.
(2nd printing will have a little addition in the back about dad. My brother and I felt it was only fitting)

Walt, It looks like the little black pump attached to the 60 might be a governor of sorts!
