Default Tierod Ends

I have a 29 Model A Pickup and have the front axle out to replace the tie rod ends, change the kingpins and repair the drag link. I welded new balls for the tie rod and replaced the ends. I had a hard time getting the new rod ends on the balls. The cup and spring stuck out past ball rod hole in the rod ends. Any suggestions on how to get the spring and cup compressed so I can insert the new ball. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

I just did this job. Had to put the new springs in a vise, compress them solid and then assemble. After that a good whack with a dead blow hammer got the rod end over the ball.

Make sure the ball seats are fully installed in the springs. When the springs are cut there is a burr left around the hole that prevents the seat from going all the way down. If this is the problem, do as ryanheacox said, seat them using a vice.
