The Ford Barn

Every now and then I come across a car on eBay which gets my attention. This car (#173668961573) appears to be nicely restored (but who knows if you can't look at it). If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! This car is a beautiful color (Washington Blue), brand new whitewall tires, dual side mounts, side curtains, rear trunk and is stated as in good running condition. The car is listed at $17,000 and there are no bids. There is only thirty hours to go to the end of the auction on Friday. What is wrong with it, what don't I see? I am fairly close to this car in Florida but I was unable to find the owner in any other ads and I never would buy a car if I can't look at it. What to you think?? Ed

Not much information and not a lot of photos, looks promising, but ????????????? a lot of questions unanswered due to lack of photos and information.

Contact the seller through eBay, and set up a time to look at the car.

for starters, the opening bid is a bit on the high side for starting bids..........

yes it looks like a deal, but you need to get bidders excited.

As a further comment, eBay does not want bidders to inspect the car before the bidding process is complete. They don't identify the seller. EBay Motors policy is that when you win an auction you have not established a contract with the seller to buy but a opportunity to inspect and finalize the purchase. Read their Terms and Conditions. If you decline the opportunity to inspect, you are obligated to complete the transaction and take the car. This is the rule so that eBay can safely collect their fee.

For me, I have a two page check list and a bunch of questions for the owner. I'm not comfortable committing to the seller even though it is not a contract to buy. I would hate to put the seller through all that.

To get good coverage of your sale, it seems to make sense to place a second ad say in Hemmiings so that your personal information is available to the seller.

I run across this before and when asked for photo of title it was for a Tudor and the car pictures looked like a 29. He said he would get the title changed it came back as a coupe but different name on title so I backed out too many red flags

I think Hemmings is a much better way to try and find a decent car, as you can contact the seller, and usually sellers also post lots of photos. I found my very nicely restored 1930 Town Sedan through Hemmings, and I also helped the widow of a good friend sell her husband’s Model A through there.

I see that car has sold, and just from the looks of even the pictures it was well worth the money in my eye.

You may have missed a deal. Nice looking Roadster.
