W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Would anyone out there in Flathead Land happen to have one of the Lincoln V12 distributors converted to use on the V8 by W&H DuCoil ?I need a picture of the plate that holds the ignition points. Their conversion used the 36-48 V8 points but I’d like to see how they done it. I have the Car Craft magazines from 1954 but that conversion uses Bendix Scintilla ignition points that are now hard to find. Plus I like the fact that I don’t have to cut the contact springs off my V12 coil with the DuCoil conversion. Thanks

I have a W&H Ducoil distributor, it is packed up and I don't have access to it at the moment. I will get it out this week and take a couple of pics.

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
It would appear there is a big difference between the old and new style DuCoil distributors. Would they use the same point plate?

An unknown LZ conversion.
These points look the same as the NOS distributor points. |

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Thanks Tony, I have a short old 8mm home movie of a friend back in the 70s putting together a converted W&H DuCoil Zephyr distributor. I was able to crop a few frames from the movie but the clarity and lighting isn’t great. But I can plainly see that he’s using 37-48 Ford ignition points. Question is that I don’t know how it’s fixed up top where the contact springs on the coil makes contact.

Ken, here are a few images of the W&H Lincoln Zephyr points plate. If you need anything else, let me know.

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Those are definitely magneto points - the same ones used in the Harman-Collins dual coils. They are not super hard to find (if you know the part numbers), though they are not exactly cheap either.

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Thanks for the pictures. I have a couple old conversions that uses the mag points. With that setup you must cut the contact springs off the bottom of the coil then notch the distributor housing to feed two wires to the outside. I just happened to notice that the one in the picture I posted that my friend was rebuilding its using the standard 37-48 V8 points and the coil still has the contact springs. I’m just wondering how that was done. Makes for a little cleaner installation.

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Ken it seems to me you could use whatever ever points you want. Just have to redrill or make points plate to suit. The coil contact being the small challenge to overcome.

Re: W&H DuCoil V12 conversion
Yeah, I have a few ideas. Guess I’ll try them out and strobe it on the machine and see how it goes. Worse case scenario I’ll just use the mag points . I have a couple of them that has the 10-52344W points and another that has points that looks like them but they aren’t as long and they have no number on them.
