Default Steering gear bushing, 34 and non vented gas cap

Is there a recommended method to remove a worn out bushing in the top of a 34 steering column without removing the column? Need a source for a non vented gas cap so I can stop my car from sloshing gas when full. 32 to 35s with the hydrostatic gauge should have a non vented cap.

ine was starting to leak. I bought a new cap from Tanks Inc. It's a #TC-32 non vented cap that I just recently installed. Seems to not leak now.

The hydrostatic sending units have a vent built into it, that is why a non vented cap is called for on these early cars. If the car has an electric gas gauge, it should have a vented cap. Problems arise when they get mixed up.

If you try to pick away at the old hard rubber bushing in the column, the junk falls down into the top bearing of the steering box. easiest thing would be remove the steering wheel and put a wheel barrow bearing from the hardware store on top. I believe the rubber is low enough to not be in the way. Best would be remove the tube, clean it out and replace with a bearing

This is what you need. Many times the gasket needs to be replaced. Lawson Cox,a member here had a few for sale.He might have one left?

Could also leave the old bushing there and put an F-1 bearing, cone, and spring at the top.

Sometimes have to sand the OD of the bearing so it isn't too tight in the tube.

As previously suggested wheel barrow bearing work too; the ID has to opened up as the steering shaft is a little over 3/4"; flange needs to trimmed too.
