One last thing I will add is that I was able to get a proper cap for a later model Mallory dual point (NOT a flat-top) from Summit. The problem was is that it was a particularly ghastly shade of blue. I found that Krylon makes a paint especially made for plastic that allowed me to return it to a proper black color.

Did the same thing to a red one until I found the black ones at NAPA.

Would probably have to be a 'king crab' cap.

Ron,

I believe that is a marine application for a seen a few Chevy dizzies with that cap. Charlie NY, Bubba and others would know for sure.

Here is some reading on the HAMB about it.

I have a Mallory distributor made for marine applications for an SBC with a crab cap. I was going to use it (because of the "look"), but it had a bent shaft, so I threw it on the parts pile.

They show up on eBay occasionally if you really want one. I'm sure the conversion is the same as a regular SBC unit. The caps are there as well and I was able to get a spare for a reasonable price (it is a special Mallory cap, not a Ford).

I've been fortunate to find and convert quite a few Chevy Mallory marine distributors to
8 BA. I will caution the curve is way off and must be re-done to make it flathead friendly
The look is everything.

1= The napa replacement black conventional) hasnt been availble for a long time !! I used to use them quite a bit . No longer available
2= The crab style cap will not fit the chevy style distributor ! Wrong rotor and outside dimention.. You can buy a mallory marine unit on ebay and machine for the flathead .
3= The Mallory flat cap (three piece ) cap etc , is a bit expensive i had some new old stock in the box that sold for $300 each on ebay .

Now why do you need a new cap as the old ones can be bead blasted and work every well , we just bead blast and clearcoat like new . NOW why do you need a new one ? Did you crack yours ?? By tightening the screws a little too much ??? I do have abox of used flat top caps , send me a picture of your problem and i will look in my box glad to help ??????
