1941 Ford car steering box part #
Hello
Can anyone confirm the proper Ford # in a 1941 Ford steering box? I saw a box with # 21A-3550-M3 and need to determine if it will be proper for my 41 Super Deluxe. Thank you, John |

I believe the prefix 21A refers to 1942 Fords. The prefix 11A is found on 1941.

He careful here. The two gearboxes are essentially identical, but it seems like I remember the '42-'48 shafts being longer. DD

I'll go with Joe, my 41 looks like yours, minus the skirts, same color too.Just put the wide whites on it last week. Is there someone in your area that can overhaul your gearbox? Al

Re: 1941 Ford car steering box part #
The steering gear box & shaft only (no column tube parts or pitman arm) likely started life as an 11A part but the replacement for it was the 21A-3504 and was used from 1941 thru 1947. Casting numbers on the gear housing are likely individual part numbers for the casting. I'm not sure what changed for 1948 (likely the lock went away) but they all share the 11A-3524 steering shaft with the lock hole in it. There is a lot of interchangeability there.

Re: 1941 Ford car steering box part #
A "-3550" is just the steering gear housing in Ford-speak. The "21A" refers to a date (1942), and a 221 cu in Ford engine (1), and passenger car application (A). DD |
