Re: Show of hands
I have a cut out switch mounted on the trans top for my Leycock Overdrive. I drilled and tapped a hole at an angle on the top rear of the passenger side shift rail shaft housing. The angle needs to be high enough to clear the cross member and low enough to clear the floor board. The switch has a plunger on the bottom. It is engaged when the shift rail shaft is in the reverse position and meets and engages the plunger. In my case, it is wired to close (kill) the Overdrive solenoid when in reverse. It can be wired to open a circuit as well.

Re: Show of hands
After the report of the latest accitdent on I-90
Where the car was rear ended, I'm considering putting a strobe light on the rear of the car. As mentioned above, there is no approval needed when it comes to safety. I've had my car less than 2 years and have put a lot of miles on it. Hoping to drive across country in the next few years. |

Re: Show of hands
Whew, reading back it seems I am not the first to do this. Or maybe I am the first to make it for this application.
Well, no matter, I will still get this done since I want to! |

Re: Show of hands
I have a F150 4-speed so the trans already has a backup light switch. I found some extremely bright led lights that look like bolts. Just had to open the holes in the license plate up a little bit and then sneak the wires down under the light bracket.

In cases like the couple that were rear ended on an interstate highway by someone not paying attention. I usually bring up the rear on club tours as well. |

Re: Show of hands
Rich Little (Bakersfield CA) who does the Volvo overdrive conversions, has the reverse lockout switch like Dick in post #20 talks about. About 6 cars in our club have this switch installed in their transmission towers.

Sweet, I think I will stick to just drilling and tapping a hole.

Re: Show of hands
I also have the f-150 and never thought about how easy that it would be to add the back up lights until your post. Much appreciated, what a treasure this site is!

So the way i see it your better off with flashing lights and potentially a ticket (judge would probably throw it out if it got that far) than the other option of no ticket but get a special box in the ground...
