Is it the cast iron Zenith or pot metal Tillotston or Marvel, with rust, or the brown petroleum stain of evaporated fuel?

I have used Carb & Choke cleaner in a spray can with good results. I spray it on, then start brushing it with a plumber's acid brush, and it gets most of the crud off. It may take a couple sprays. My neighbor gave me a can of carb cleaner that you soak the carb in, but it sure isn't like the old stuff that would peel your skin off. In the 60's I used my hand to pull out some carb parts from the basket, and the next day my skin looked like that on a crockadile. I didn't know you weren't supposed to put your hands in the stuff. A few days later the outer layer of skin peeled away, but at least the stuff did a good job.

Humble Opinion:

For tar like crud inside carburetor caused by ethanol fuel dissolving old gas tank sealers; yellow/brown fuel varnish inside carburetor caused by old evaporated fuel; & old petroleum based stains outside carburetor, all can be removed with water based POR 15 Marine Clean, when mixed 1:3 with 3 parts water.

From past experiences, this solution will dissolve, mix with like an emulsifier, & "remove" all of these easily, in lieu of thinning same, removing some, & allowing some of this thinned mix to penetrate the porous metal.

For cleaning carburetor rust, after removing scale & loose rust, & after cleaning with POR Marine Clean, apply POR 15 Prep & Ready according to directions.
