Re: Pitman Arm Question
I have a 29 and a 31 Model A. Both have the shorter pitman arm, from Brattons. On both cars the spindles hit the stops when turned to the full extreme. I haven't noticed any diminished turning radius. I can just make a u-turn at my mail box, could before and after I installed them, no difference, that I could measure, but mine aren't powder coated, that would shorten the radius at least the thickness of the coating X the difference between that and no coating. Perhaps as much as 1/8 inch in the with of the street?

Re: Pitman Arm Question
I had a shortened pitman arm on my RHD 1930 roadster with 7 tooth box.
The steering hit both stops just as it did with the longer arm. The box broke so I fitted a 2 tooth box and the steering still hits both stops. The stop dome nuts both have thick lock washers. Without these the steering radius is tighter but the 550 tyres rub on the brake rods on full lock. SAJ in NZ |
