induction gauge/meter
After installing new wiring harnesses on the 48 the battery gauge/meter quit working. I read on another thread the same thing happening to MS Precher on his pickup truck. I have not seen another post from him whether or not he got it working.
Would the new wire being better insulated than the old cloth covered wire have anything to do with this? Also would this other type of gauge work. The back is different where the wire passes through. |

Re: induction gauge/meter
Wire covering shouldn't make a difference. It would have to be shielded wire to block the electrical field. What size (gauge) wire are you using? Are you sure you have the correct wire running through the meter? Where does the wire start and where does it end?
It should be wired like this. Last edited by JSeery; 06-29-2018 at 10:17 AM. |

Re: induction gauge/meter
14g would be way to small. This wire would carry all of the current going to the car circuits. It should be 10g. Something doesn't sound correct.

Re: induction gauge/meter
My error, it isn't 14 gauge. It is much heavier, I don't know what gauge it is. It is yellow as the wiring diagram shows and is wired just as your diagram is.

Re: induction gauge/meter
Well, there are only two real options here, wire incorrectly or meter not working. A clamp on ammeter (multimeter type) would verify the wiring. Not sure of a good way to check the indash ammeter short of trying it in another car. Is everything else in the wiring working ok?

The reason I asked about the gauge in the picture is because it is available but I don't know if I need another or if something else is wrong. |

Re: induction gauge/meter
Can you see the colors? This is one I drew up in the past, but the colors can vary. Also posted some other examples. Note: I removed two of them, they were the wrong wire count.

Re: induction gauge/meter
If you can locate the brake switch wire and the blinker canister wires the rest are fairly easy to sort out.
