Yesterday I had the good fortune to meet "Pete" who posts on this Forum and spend some time talking with him about cams and the ability to change their profiles to suit our needs for making HP. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words and seeing how the cam grinding machine changes the lobes and heel to make an engine perform differently made it easier to understand how a stock cam can be made into a performance cam. Thanks Pete for taking the time to explain the art of cam grinding and sharing your racing experience. The hobby is lucky to have folks like you and others here on the Barn who retain the knowledge and skills that we benefit from to keep our jalopies on the road and to give them a little more pep.

So that's what the old coot looks like!! Seriously, it is always very inspirational talking to the experts in their field; I for one always devour Pete's posts on the barn, now I know what he looks like, I feel like I almost know him!! Only thing is, he don't know squat about me lol. Thanks for posting.

Is that a Van Norman? Pete made some beautiful cams for me. One of them a 425 Eliminator on my 32 steel core which, SADLY, is still resting in the drawer.

No, it's a Storm Vulcan Hydraulic with digital feed/readout.

I worked for a small cam grinder back in the 50's ( Dom Ravese ) always wish I had stayed with him . I can remember him borrowing "masters" from Howard.

Cam grinding is a science, that to this day, I do not understand how it is done. I guess I'll leave that to the guru's of cam grinding!
