Default OT Model A.., What do you do.?

When the seasons change, and some move hobby and "inflictions" indoors, what occupies those long, dreary winter days? Besides the "A", I build acoustic guitars (very amateur luthier skills), working on numbers 9 and 10.!
I know there are many talented individuals with skills unknown.!

Wow - impressive work on those guitars!!

Here in CT - repainting about 1,000 rooms in the house this winter, can't say I am looking forward to it!

Any leisure time will likely be spent reading - I never seem to have time to get through all the hobby related books - especially like out of print stuff. For non auto books I like biographies - read most of the "killing" series which I enjoyed, this year a handful of musicians have published autobiographies so I expect to catch up on those.

Antique radio restoration and repair. Same era, of course, give or take.

A few years back to fill the winter gap I built a six post deliver express wagon body but ended up building the whole car. Can be seen on the T thread under Winter build project T body. This winter I will work on the A when I can and get back to work on a Kentucky long rifle.

Hey Jim/Alabam, you said "never to produce a book". I can show you how to publish one really cheap. It only costs the price of one book, which can be from $8.00 to $65.00.
Not good for any volume, but great for the family.

I guess it's indoors, in the garage...

I hope to make some progress on my "other car", a 1955 Ford Ranchwagon with a '57 "T-Bird 312" Y-Block (Of course). This project has taken me WAAYYY longer than I anticipate due to health issues and life in general. And because I enjoy playing with my '30 Town Sedan so much.

Yea I was given a 1979 Honda moped I plan to tear down and rebuild the motor. I started to just freshen it up but couldn't get it to run (has compression and spark and fuel soo guessing timing is wonky) - not sure what is happening and set it aside last spring to focus on AA stuff. Plan is to remove entire engine and break it down to its bare bits and rebuild it.

Not 100% sure what I plan to do - I usually head to the gun range more in the winter as its less busy but I like it as you can shoot all day and your shoulder doesnt hurt due to a thick jacket haha. Get cold shoot more ammo and hug the barrel.( still scraping off melted rubber dots from my gloves when they melted to a hot barrel...)

This fall I am in the process of organizing all my model A parts into categories: stuff I will need to complete the project in easy access, stuff that is spares that may be used someday in another area, and stuff I have extras of that I dont need and would sell.

I used to be involved with the RC hobby (Not a cheap hobby, either). I built my two Bixlers, my Super Cub and my Dynam PBY to keep my mind working. I got into DIY stuff and made everything from composters, pontoon boats, camera mounts, cameras, dog photos, diy self-watering planters, diy A/C units, diy kandles, rocket stoves, rocket heaters and so forth. Anything to keep my mind busy. However, after making the last four cigar box guitars, I essentially put everything into storage and allowed the dust to accumulate on all of it. I had lost my best human pals when they passed away, my dogs when they passed away, my Mother and sister when they passed and somehow I just lost all interest in much of any of it. Presently, it all wastes away in a storage barn, even my sidecar rig.

That Dynam was as big as my sidecar rig and yet, I never even flew the thing when completed. Never finished out the cigar box guitars, either. The dog in the photo with the Super Cub was my pal, my buddy, my friend and my confidant. When he, Murph, passed away about two years back, I sort of lost interest in all hobbies for a bit and everything went into moth balls in the storage barn.

My new dog, Sailer, has sparked me back to at least trying to keep focused enough to maybe finish a project or two in the future. Hopefully my Model A pickup won't join the other hobbies, as Sailor keeps me busy in doing things on it at present.

All these things were fun projects to be involved in. One never knows when the urge may strike again to bring one or two back out and piddle some more though.

Y Block,

There's no winter in Redondo Beach. I lived in Hermosa Beach in the early 1960's and I didn't notice much change. My friend and I used to go down the street to the Lighthouse Bar frequently to listen to the Jazz. We lived on Hermosa Beach Blvd., a block from the ocean, and you could surf all year.

Not much Winter here so all of my sweaty work gets pushed off to the cooler months. This year I'm putting in an irrigation system.

Haha, You of course are correct. I grew up in Hermosa Beach, on Ardmore Ave and 21st. It's actually raining outside today but it's 74°F.

The Lighthouse is still there altho it's called The Lighthouse Cafe now. Still has Jazz Bands. You may recall The Insomniac (long gone) where all the 'Beatniks' hung out also??

I Wrote a book. First one all by myself. Before that I spent 7 years assisting two authors on "Deep Stuff", an historical novel. My book, "From the Shadows of Coyote Mountain to the Base of Mount Diablo," has several stories of the Model A, and one about a Fordson Tractor.
Self published an available from me or Amazon.com Easy reading and fun to write and research. Enjoy!

My winter projections will be: New pistons and rods in My '21 T . New upholstery on my '21 roadster. Finally get the chassis done for my '31 Vicky and maybe, just maybe gettting the Flathead running in it as well. Praying that I don't have to plow our 1500 ft driveway everyday !!
