Purdy and rotorwrench: inside the exhaust manifold where the bolts screw into the holes are blind - there are two bosses that stop the bolts. They are not there anymore.

If the bottom is broken out of either of the 5/16 bolt holes in the exhaust manifold where the intake manifold connects , even if the rest of the threads are still in place , there will more than likely be a slight exhaust leak .

Can one not grind the back flat and using a longer bolt put a nut on the bolt?

Couldn't some sealer similar to muffler stuff be put on the bolt to seal the hole?

The muffler stuff might work . If the manifold isn't sagged , it should be worth working with.

I think I will give it a try. It is pretty straight and already machined. I just don't want to have to take it off again.

If a person has enough access, the back side could be brazed up but there may not be enough access to get a torch or brazing rod in there. Someone likely tried to use bolts that were too long to hold those manifolds together.

New exhaust manifolds are pretty reasonably priced . I recently got a new manifold from Brattons . I would recommend a new manifold and not have to wonder if it was going to leak . I
