Default 59ab cooling system

I would like to know if I should use coolant or not. I currently use distilled water and water wetter. From talking to people it seems like water cools better. I'm in socal so it never gets to cold over here. If there's a better way, I would like some insight.

I have a 59ab in my '34 and live outside of Dallas, TX. I run 50/50 distilled water and antifreeze along with water wetter. On a 100 deg day, my motor runs about 180 driving and about 190 if I have to sit at a light. No thermostats, Skip Haney water pumps, new radiator core and freshly flushed block.

I would remind you that antifreeze is also anti-boil. How warm does your motor run on a warm day? To me, running without antifreeze/boil is just waiting for something bad to happen.

My motor runs about 180. I was just curious if I should add antifreeze. What kind of antifreeze should I run?

You need some kind of anti-corrosion agent in the mix. I don't know if the "water wetter" has it or not. I think you'd be better off with a 50/50 coolant mix. With a basically stock system, if you need "water wetter" or "Purple Ice" or whatever, somehthng else is wrong.

Use 2 gallons of Prestone perminate anti freeze for block protection,
a bottle of Bar's heavy duty block sealer with copper granuals and
and two bottles of Purple Ice. The Prestone is also a water pump
lubricant. Bar's seals any small leaks now or in the future and is also
a pump lubricant. The Purple Ice treats and coats the inside of the
water jacket for better heat transfer, a 20 to 30 degree drop in water
temperature is usually noticed on most engines on hot days. G.M.

From Purple Ice website: "Tech Tip: Important Precautions: Be sure your cooling system is working properly and that the radiator is free of blockage and corrosion before using Purple Ice. Antifreeze should be properly mixed and filled to manufacturers’ specifications. Distilled water and / or demineralized water should not be used if you elect to run a mixture of straight water and Purple Ice in your radiator. Contact Royal Purple’s Technical Support department if you are considering using Purple Ice with straight water or if you have previously used another brand of coolant additive. Call toll-free at 888-382-6300 or Email Technical Support."

Maybe some chemist here can explain why distilled or demineralized water should not be used with a product that reduces surface tension?

"G.M.", not to be argumentative, but I would think that anything that "coats the inside of the water jacket" would insulate it and retard heat transfer, not enhance it. I have not used anything but an antifreeze/water mixture in vehicles with cooling systems in good shape and have never had a problem. Sure, I've dumped in a can or two into a beater that sprung a leak driving some place, but I always ended up fixing the problem and going back to a straight mixture.

Look up Purple Ice and read their explanation of how it works. I have
used it in all my old Fords and recommended to 100's of other people
who all had some cooling improvements. The first 34 I put it in I kept
watching the temperature with a laser thermometer and in about 15
minutes the temperature slowly dropped 20 degrees. G.M.
