Default Window Install

Is there a need for any sealant (other than the U-channel) when installing rear and 1/4 window glass? When I removed the glass there was a thick bead of a silicone type material.. not original I'm sure.!

I know it's not original, but I used black RTV around the edge of my rear window to keep the water out. It blends well with the long grain Cobra on the top and will stop and water from staining the upholstery. John
