Default If you have ever wondered how a differential works

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I think this is a cool old video explaining how a diffy works. The motorcycle stunts at the lead in are WAY cool.

They had a way of explaining things back in the day,,,,,that just plain made sense. Plus, years later we get to enjoy looking at these old black and white movies. Thanks for posting. Mark.

Very well explained, it took away the perception that I actually understood how they work. Thanks.

As a youngster I was always puzzled how the differential worked. Whoever came up with the differential had to have been a mechanical genius.

I beleive Henry Ford used the same principle in his Model T transmission. I have never seen inside a Model T transmission but can vision a similar set up.

I really liked the part where they show the open driveshaft going through the back seat area. That is priceless.

I would agree about the engineering genius for this. It is truly amazing what some folks' minds can conjure up. I wish I were better at it.

WOW, I think I have heard it all now. Tranny, dizzy, but "diffy". Give me a break. Next it will be "waa waa" in the RADiator. LOL

Lawson, you "heard" it from Heard!!!!....I was impressed with the time it took to make those "props" in the video. Also, I never knew why the driveshaft worked better when it was lowered.

Ha! Ha! Lawson! Sorry about that. I'll be sure to spell out differential, transmission, distributor in the future. The problem with that approach though is that on this forum you are only allowed a certain number of keystrokes and I think I m
