46 Ford coupe rocker box replacement
I have to replace the rockers (from cowl to rear inner fender) on a 46 Ford coupe. Can this be done without removing the body from the frame? Any advice appreciated.

I would say it can and should be done that way to keep everything in alignment.

Re: 46 Ford coupe rocker box replacement
I just did this on a 47 business coupe. A couple of tips, first test fit your doors and weld bracing inside to keep the gaps right, then before you weld anything have your running boards on hand to make sure the rocker boxes are bent at the right spot to fit the boards. The boxes I installed were from EMS and needed some work to fit properly. I ordered both the front section and the back section and had to fit them together. The last thing I can help you with is the captured nuts on the inside that were provided were the wrong thread. I had to tap these out to fine thread one size larger to make the board bolts fit correctly. Hope this helps. I think I have lots of pictures if it will help you I can maybe post them.

I wanted to hear from a person who has been through the process and the advice is great . Posting photos would really help ,as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words. What did you do to fit the doors? The rockers I found on the internet had 3 sections and I think they were made by EMS. Are they the rockers that you used? If not, where did you buy? Sorry for all the questions but I want to do it right. Thanks for the help. My email [email protected] |
