Default fuel line delivery issue from tank

I disconnected the fuel line at the tank and noticed that the line did not feed into the tank. It stops right at the nut. This might explain why I need so much gas in the tank to run the engine?
Shouldn't the fuel line reach closer to the bottom of the tank? I'm looking to see what is correct and what works best for an occasionaly driven vehicle. Thanks

Remove the sending unit and look for an extension tube on the inside of the tank. It should extend to the bottom of the tank from the boss. If it is missing or has fallen out you will have to replace it.
