Default French Flathead in the womb

Here it is still in the Military "Cargo"from mid 1950's. The seller wants 950 Euros(about $1100) for it.Its not the one that most are looking for that use the 8BA heads. These are like the 59A.Notice the location of the dist. Pete or Mercman please enlarge. Thanks

Can you remove the stock distributor and run a crab or helmet off the cam like Ford? I see a block off plate on the front cover. I never knew they made two types.

I had a German engine with that same distributor position and the block off plate. I removed the plate and ran a helmet on it, then switched to a crab type. Cam was long nose type.

SO is it through the hole where one would normally put the oil pressure sending unit?? OR is there an access hole in the back of the block???

Could you please elaborate as to what type of vehicle (Military "Cargo") this is?
Thanks,

The "Cargo's were 1955-63 made by Simca. They are equivalent to the "Deuce and 1/2 trucks we had in the army.I have a friend sending me pics which I will post. Those engines were 3.9 litre. The later "Marmon" were 4.2 litre with the 4" crank. I happen to have a Metric 97 (marked 24.6)that came off a cargo engine.I put a USA 97 base on it.The aluminum oil pan in last 2 pics are off a Cargo engine.See pics.
First pic is of the Cargo. 2nd pic is of the Marmon.Pete please enlarge.Very last pic is of the 1956 "Cargo".Thanks

On German flatheads the dissy was located at the rear of the engine. SO it seems that this one is not a french it should be a german G29 enigne
