Default Door check strap - ‘36 Phaeton

What is correct for this car, “T” or loop style ? The mounting accommodation (internal) appears to favor the “T”.

Thank you.

"T" style. All the repos are terrible. Sharp edges and soft rubber.Don't slide easy and end up folded in the door jamb.Hunted and found original NOS but that was 20 yrs ago.

Thank you - may be why they are missing; both rear door straps torn off at jamb…

Yes I bought 4 repos for my 35 phaeton, very soft and fold easily, especially on rear doors. Make sure they slide freely in the door guide plates. Also when the door is fully opened be careful not to lean forwards on the door , they snap easily. It may be better to get some leather craft place to make them in leather for strength. The handles on old trunks were hard leather and very strong.

If using the repro check straps consider a spring (aftermarket carburetor spring style) to keep mild tension on the sliding end.

Steele Rubber has T strap reproductions - very expensive, so hopefully correct relative to stiffness, etc

I sold a spare pair of NOS 15 yrs ago for over $100. They are cloth reinforced have tapered edges and the Firestone "F" logo on them.

Will report on Steele Rubber product; cost was about $80 before shipping, so they had better be correct.
