Default Gas gauge sending unit

I know this is an old topic however has anyone found a replacement gas gauge sending unit that works. I replaced mine several years ago with a Drake unit and it failed quickly. I have a old unit that I have tested with an ohm meter but seems to give me erratic results! Any help? Thanks Frank

Frank, be sure and read through all the threads dealing with the gas tank sending unit.
It's frustrating, but very informative. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/search...archid=3964620 I don't think there is an aftermarket 6V sending unit that will work with the stock OEM gauge since both the OEM guage and the OEM sending unit operate on the basis of current flow through a bi-metallic principle - not ohms resistance. Maybe the IBM plant on the South Rd. could make such a sending unit - that is, if it's still there?
