Panel Truck
Anybody seen the 1931 Panel Truck body on ebay? Does not look like any Panel truck I've ever seen?

Re: Panel Truck
That's not an A or AA cowl by Ford. There were other manufacturers of commercial bodies though.
I stand corrected! I did find pictures of commercial cowls that came with no windshield that has that same cowl from ford in 1931 and even late 1931. What threw me was the filler piece that screwed in on the sides. Never noticed that before.

Re: Panel Truck
Pretty cool, Martin Perry body maybe. The cowl is 30-E31, and is still considered a roadster cowl, that Ford offered converted for use with body by others. It is considered the roadster cowl, because it has provisions for doors. If you removed the top gas tank sheet metal piece, one could add ram horns and use it on a roadster. It wasn't until later in 31 that ford produced the true commercial cowl with no provision for doors and was flat flanged at the back to mount against a body by others. You will notice in certain pictures the cowl doesn't fit flat to the body.

Re: Panel Truck
I like it. I may have a the windshield frame for it. The one provided with it is in pretty bad shape. Rod

Re: Panel Truck
So... I know the guy that ended up buying the body. It arrived today and we set it on a model a chassis to see how it sat.
Seems to be in decent condition. Some wood will need to be replaced but turns out the guy that bought it also owns a highend cabinet shop. That'll probably come in handy. I plan to help out while it progresses and will definitely be grateful for any help from the fb crew. One question right away is... does anyone have any pictures of the rear bracket that holds up the rear end off the frame? I'll probably start another thread down the line here also. Thank you. Re: Panel Truck
That's a nice looking truck, and would be great for swap meets. You can haul parts and sleep in the back.

Re: Panel Truck
I agree Tom it's pretty neat.
Trying to keep the direction moving in a restoration concept. The whole thing is a wood frame with a sheet metal outside. Floor needs replacement but the wood is there to make patterns. I didn't think it was going to fit a standard model a chassis. Well it does. All the hardware pieces are interesting. All the doors are there with hardware. It'd be nice to find something on the rear support. Some of it is there and you could easily fab something. Guess it maybe a rare bird. If anyone has any info or leads on a rear bracket please let me know. Thanks. |

Re: Panel Truck
That is a neat looking commercial Panel Van body, similar to types that were built in most foreign markets [ plus the US] which supported local commercial body builders & suited local requirements.
The body has door swaging very similar to that produced by Canada Carriage & Body Co., Brantford, which were sometimes known as Brantford bodies. They did cabs for the 1929 Light deliveries & Trucks as Canada stopped assembling the Budd ''Phonebooth'' sometime during 1928 & started using Brantfords but there must have been many other makers. An example was that yellow AA Pepsi truck from Canada that the owner used to subtly plug on here. They are also pictured in the Canadian Service Bulletins Jan. 1929, also Feb. & March '29. It is great to see it mounted on a chassis & I hope the new owner acknowledges the Canadian connection. |

Re: Panel Truck
That'd be a nice truck to own but maybe not to drive in a gusty cross wind!

Thanks for the pictures, I came very close to buying it a few days before it was sold, I just could not take on another project! Please continue to post pictures of the restoration.
