Default 1939 Ford DeLuxe Cigar lighter

Can you use the original 6 volt cigar lighter after you convert to 12 volts.

It will work and heats twice as fast but you'll burn it up

Many of the older helicopters I work on had cigarette lighters and ash trays. The ones that have 24-volt systems had large Ohmite ceramic coated wire wound resistors in the circuit to control the current draw. These were set up with stand off bushings & fasteners to keep them isolated away from structure since they can get pretty hot. They never made a 24-volt lighter coil that I'm aware of and most were all just 12-volt automotive type.

You may be able to find a 12-volt automotive type that will fit on the knob for the 39. Some of those old ones were odd shapes so I don't know whether one would fit it or not.
