one piece front seal direction?
Installing a one piece front seal on an 8BA without instructions. In searching the net I see reference to possibility of placing seal backwards. I can see the bevel on the inner piece but which direction is considered correct? TIA

'pointed" end toward the oil.

Re: one piece front seal direction?
By direction I mean is it:
bevel towards \ --------> engine OR bevel away from / --------> engine OR does it make any difference in preventing any future leaks? Thanks again, Tony |

Re: one piece front seal direction?
Thanks Richard if I read you right you are referring to my second example where the
sloping bevel is towards \ ----> the engine. Tony |

In this illustration the left is the engine (wet) side and the right is the dry (outside) side. The smaller projection towards the right is a dust seal and is on the outside. Mart. Last edited by Mart; 12-15-2016 at 03:08 PM. |

If you carefully peel back the lip with your finger you can see the spring inside, this opening where you see the spring faces to the inside, towards the crank timing gear! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. If your using that 1-pc seal I would recommend having the corresponding sleeve to accompany it!! The sleeve's for these seals shouldn't have the "spirals" (oil-feedback-grooves) machined into them (left photo).

Re: one piece front seal direction?
On the internet, Luke from Luke's Custom machining and Design has a very good tutorial on installing a one piece seal, he also manufactures the new piece without groves for the seal to ride on. I think you can google installing one piece seal in a ford flathead. Good luck

Thanks Cobbie I've seen it, and followed it when installing mine after Gosfast's great pictures.
