You can get an idea of the change by looking at the gear ratios. For a 16 tooth input, the 28 tooth cluster teeth are 28 -24 (2nd)-18 (1st)-15(reverse). With a 29 tooth 1st/reverse slider and a 22 tooth second gear the ratios are: 28/16 x 29/18 = 2.82 for 1st gear and 28/16 x 22/24 = 1.60 for 2nd gear

For a 15 tooth input, the 29 tooth cluster teeth are 29-24-18-14. First gear is 29/15 x 29/18 = 3.11 while second is 29/15 x 22/24 = 1.77.

Hence the 1st and 2nd ratios are about 10% wider for the 29 tooth trans compared to the 28 tooth. What does it mean? It means it acts as if the rear end were 10 % lower numerically while in first or second. Hence if you like your present response in first or second, you can switch to a 10 % higher rear end and get a 10% reduction in engine speed while in high gear while retaining your response in the lower gears.

Juergen.....NOW I fully understand what you were getting at. Much appreciated! DD
