Default Valve seat crack????

How are valve seats cracks repaired? Have a early engine with 1 cracked valve seat, the crack goes to the edge of the cylinder. Are these normally welded? The crack does not go down into the cylinder. I do not have the valve out. It is a 36LB engine, thanks

Most machine shops pin them with Irontite cast iron threaded taper pins or Lock & Stitch methods. Cast can be welded but it takes a lot of heat to fusion weld a block. This is a specialty trade and they mostly work on unobtanium type antique stuff. Most shops recommend a sleeve to reinforce a cylinder wall that is on a repaired area due to warranty possibilities. What rotor wrench said but you also machine for a new valve seat. You need to make sure the crack does not go into the valve chamber. Not saying that cannot be fixed but it gets more difficult. There is a guy near me who can stitch most anything. Works out of his house. I was there one time and he was repairing a Delahaye block with the side blown out of it.
