Pictures and description of connecting shifter to transmission - F/M rod
I can’t seem to find any clear pictures or instructions for connecting the shifter to transmission rod for Fordomatic. For starters, does the pin on the end of the rod go through the hole in the direction of the arrow or through the hole toward the arrowhead?

Re: Pictures and description of connecting shifter to transmission - F/M rod
Thanks. That’s the best picture I’ve seen. The good news is I put the rod in correctly on the transmission lever. The bad news is it appears to be too long and it was so tight to get it in (I had to force it in between the lever and footwell, so now doubt I can get it back out. If I can find room to hammer a dent in the footwell, I might be able to get it out.
I think the previous owner changed the length to fit a non-T-bird transmission. I now have a transmission from a 1956 T-bird. One other question. When looking straight at the levers, what is the orientation of the different gear positions? From left to right, Low - 2 - Drive - Neutral - Reverse - Park? |

There is no " 2 " position on the shifter for a '55/'57 T-Bird automatic transmission, P R N Df Lo only. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 11-10-2020 at 08:56 PM. |
