Flywheel wiring
Bein new to the flathead 59A/B. Ive seen many flywheel bolts wired together. Youve all been helpful to me on the building of my first flatty. And i thank you jseery, olron and many others. I would like to ask if there is a diagram or technique i can go by to wire my flywheel bolts together like they did back in the day. I was told to just use loctite but i wanna do it right. Thanks for all your help. Ive learned a lot just from reading threads on the Ford barn

Re: Flywheel wiring
Run the safety wire through the hole through the head of the nut that is closest to radial (pointing to the center). Then imagine the bolt trying to unscrew itself. Run the safety wire to oppose that motion. That is, run the wire from the outer side of that bolt to the inner side of the bolt to its right. And so on around the bolt pattern, drawing the wire tight at each turn. Join the ends with at least three tight twists and mash the twist close to the flywheel.
Don't know what the tech manual says, but that is the way Junky George told me to do it when I bought my first flathead from his salvage yard. |

Use this hyperlink, go to page 7-20 for instructions on how they safety wire hardware on aircraft. It is not how I have seen Ford flywheel or journal caps wired, they used a single wire untwisted method that I did not repeat. |
