33-34 Steering Wheel Orientation
I was having a discussion with a friend about 33-34 Steering Wheel orientation.
The wheels have double keyways, allowing either Spoke Down (Y) or Spoke Up (Inverted Y). My understanding was passenger wheels were mounted in the Y position to allow full view of the straight ahead instruments, while commercial were mounted inverted Y to allow better view of centered instruments. We had a similar discussion a few years ago... https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...el+orientation But looking for some clarification on the subject. Thanks, Neal Last edited by NealinCA; 07-09-2018 at 05:12 PM. |

Re: 33-34 Steering Wheel Orientation
Neal,
That orientation makes good sense, but short of having a copy of either the relevant 'SK' (assembly sketch) or assembly instruction document from Ford's archives at the Benson Ford Research Center, I doubt whether that documentation is in the public domain. For what it is worth, as a running change during the '32 model year where the steering wheels had only one key way, the orientation was rotated from that in your photo on the right to that in your photo on the left. |

Re: 33-34 Steering Wheel Orientation
On my '33, I have the steering wheel oriented in the "Y" position for better viewing of the gauges.
