Default Need advice in storing our AA Pepsi Truck

It is time for us to store the 28 AA Pepsi truck ... I will be keeping her outside in the enclosed auto hauler trailer .. I have her fueled up ... I have the trickle charger ready to plug in ( will do a trickle every 2 weeks or so ) .. The trailer is not heated ... I am leaving the roof vent open to alow any warm air out ( if there is any this winter ) .. Incase of a major storm we will move the unit in our garage for a day or two ...Is there anything else I should do ? Below is the the truck and trailer

Hello Harry,
She could always winter here in San Diego with Maggie, (assuming it is a she of course) , if not there could be a lot of little yellow pickup pups running around.
Maybe better to take the battery out and keep in the shop, did you add some additive to the tank?, ..... stay warm Harry.
Brian.

Don't forget to put some stabilzer in the gas. I'd close the roof vent of the trailer, you don't want any heavy snow to break it. I have a friend that stores his Boss 429 in a trailer all winter, sealed up tight, with no issues.
Love your truck, I guess I've missed it, I've never seen it until today.

Hey Brian .. Thats funny .as long as the pups like Pepsi that could work .. I put some stablelizer in the tank ... I like to start and run the truck once or twice a month .. Battery is not that easy to get out while in the trailer ... I do have a kill switch though

I don't live far from Pepsi, I'm in Westminster Park, I was over at Krown the other day, so I drove right by, and didn't know it. I'd love to come see it some time. Krown makes a oil spray, it's cheap insurance to coat anything that is bare metal.

Are you planning on blocking it up off of the tires?

I've read some strings discussing running the engine during storage and the answer was NO because of not completely warming up the oil and causing condensation problems. 10-15 mins. was not enough from what I remember. Just a thought.

I agree with Peter. I already parked mine a month ago and won't touch it for the next five months. I usually change oil just before parking it, but didn't get that done this year. An occasional battery charge for an hour would be fine for the battery, but I don't do that either and the car starts right up in the spring. I always throw moth balls around the garage and in the car and never see a sign of a mouse. I also set mouse traps just on the outside of the garage door and catch a few mice. The neighbor's cats come over and make the rounds about 3 times a day and they are great hunters.

Thanks Tom , and Peter .. Not starting her up is a good idea .never thought about condesation .. always good to get advice from all .. The truck was parked for 13 years and with new plugs , fuel and battery she fired up so I guess 4 months in a trailer won't hurt

I would throw a bunch of mouse traps in there as well. Get them before they get you.

Regarding the mice, I keep traps set in the garage all winter long. I also like to stuff some steel wool in the tail pipe and carb intake.

I thought I had gotten rid of the mouse problem. I still had an unopened box of Decon out in the garage. The mice found it and chewed it open.

Care of tires when car is stored: When a car is idle for any appreciable length of time, It should be jacked up to take the load off the tires, If the car is laid up for several months, It's is best to remove the tires, Wrap up the outer casings and inner tubes separately, and store them in a dark room not exposed to extreme temperatures. Remove oil o grease from the tires with gasoline. This text is a extract from the "engine chassis manual"

It would be better to drain the pipes and carburetor?. to prevent spoilage of gasoline, and prevent some stuck

Thanks for all your help ... Normally we would store the truck indoors but space around here is limited ... We will make sure she is safe ..
Thanks again ... Harry Lipki / Pepsi Mechanic
