Default Same source for Bob Drake and Vintique?

I bought what I thought would be Bob Drake SS Hood Brackets from Gearhead on Ebay who listed them as Bob Drake's
but I was sent Vintique's version. When I complained he asked why I wanted Bob Drake's since the manufacturer is the same for both.

Is that correct?

The vintique brackets are thinner gauge steel than my original brackets.

Many reproduced items sold by many vendors are manufactured by one source as the demand is not very strong. I still think it is good that somebody tries to provide a part that may work.

Go over to the HAMB and do a search on Gearhead Enterprises. That may give you a clue why they questioned you.

The best process, in my opinion, is to buy from BD, DC, or Mac's. I have learned that they do, apparently, 'share' manufacturing needs'. For example, I ordered a '40 Deluxe steering wheel from Drake. When received, it had the Vintique name on the back. I will ad that it was a beautiful and excellent steering wheel! I than called Dennis Carpenter and they told me the same thing, i.e. their wheels come from Vintique. I experienced the same thing with a trunk mat for my '40, i.e. Mac fills that need. So, I guess, it is 'whatever works'? Just wanted to share.

I had a Vintique rear hood hinge bracket on a 32 ford several years ago and after a dozen or so openings the head popped off the bracket allowing the hood to swing over center. I have used Drake brackets on all my deuces since then with no problems.

I spoke with James today at Drake's and the answer is No, they are not made by the same supplier.

I ordered Vintique 34 Dlx head light reflectors from Mac's and they do not fit properly due to the outer rim being too tall the gasket does not touch the glass lens. I am in the process of talking to Bob Drake Technical to see if their reflectors are also made by Vintique. Difficult to get a straight answer from them.
I just got an email from BD and he makes his own reflectors.

I was looking at the Gearhead eBay listing for the rear bracket (which I believe is Vintique) and it shows the head is screwed to the bracket. Is the Drake bracket spot welded like the original? Last one I bought was welded, but that was many years ago.

Most products from Gearheads is Vintique. They do not try to hide it. If you do a closeup of what you want to buy you can usually read it on the package.

They listed it as Bob Drake which is why I bought them. No packaging was shown. They are paying for return shipping and I will get a full refund thanks to Ebay.
