Question Ammeter question.

Hey folks,

The little tabs on the ammeter bezel have broken off, do they sell the bezel separately, or do I just buy repop?

The ammeter works fine, but I currently have it held in with rubber bands wrapped around it on the back side preventing it from falling out, or shorting out.

I also had that problem. I used a small hose clamp on body of meter behind dashboard. Worked great. Has been that way now for over 20 years.

Enjoy.

You can hold it in with some epoxy like JB Weld or plumber's putty from the hardware store. Hold the gauge in tight and press a bead of epoxy around the side of it against the dash panel. If it works fine as you say, it is worth saving!

Thanks Guy's!

She works like a charm, so I'll look into ways of keeping it fixed into place. Not sure I'd want something so permanent as epoxy or JB Weld. I do like the hose clam idea or similar.

Also, mine has a wave washer between the gauge bezel and the metal opening. I don't seem to find that wave washer anywhere. Mine is a little tortured, but I think I can straighten it out OK, I would rather spend the time doing so on something more productive if I can just order the washer.

Regards
Bill

If you use the clamp method go easy with tightening, those gauges are tender.

I've never seen a wave washer in any Ford publications for the model A ammeter or any on unrestored cars. It may have had something to do with the problem with the tabs.

Try a snug fitting O ring.

I used a bead of caulking around the inside. Easy to scrape off if the need arises.

Dab of hot glue. Easy to remove cleanly if necessary in the future.

Couple of dots of UV setting epoxy, maybe three. Dots can be removed easily with a knife. Sets up in 15 seconds. It is clear.

FYI I use this method to keep hubcaps from rattling.

Regarding the UV epoxy, something like this?
