Default Help Removing Rod from steering wheel switch

I have an extremely nice light/horn rod from my '36 that I am sure someone can use so I do not want to destroy it upon disassembly. I removed the horn button, but removing the rod from the switch plate is a different story. Can these two pieces be seperated without damage? Thanks, Pete
