Brian, I was informed by a well known authorized member of the Early Ford V8 Club who owns several Ford V8,s in England, and corresponds with me, that no V8 engines were produced at Dangenham after the war and that all the 21 stud V8 engines fitted to the Pilots cars and Thames trucks were war surplus from the military stock of them at their depots and the Military only payed Ford for them when they required them during World War 2.

It makes a LOT of sense! English V8 cars and trucks were a very minor part of the range after WWII, and war production was vast. I have somewhere at home a "Ford at War" book that gives the numbers of engines built and rebuilt by Ford England in WWII.
The Pilot was actually sort of a product of WWII...The prewar Model 62 V8 60 car was just right for military sedan and station wagon needs, and so they just installed the bigger engine, creating the Pilot's immediate ancestor.
